ETF Edge: December 2010

Published on by on December 1, 2010

Welcome to the December issue of ETF Edge! As we draw closer to the end of another strong year for the ETF industry, cash continues to flow in and new products continue to pop up in a variety of asset classes. With November and December expected to slow down from a product development perspective, we highlight in this edition some of the issues facing the ETF industry going forward, including potentially adverse regulatory developments, an increasing need for increasingly sophisticated education, a shrinking expense ratio gap, and the fallout from an inevitable wave of product closures. In addition, we highlight the ongoing shifts in the competitive landscape, exciting new products, and some of the year’s best performers.

From an investing perspective, it appears as if there will be no shortage of drama during the holiday season. Investors are struggling to divide their attention between a potentially destabilizing conflict on the Korean peninsula, a devastating though not unexpected debt crisis in Europe, and the ongoing unemployment saga stateside. With the bears seemingly multiplying by the hour, we profile a handful of asset classes that we believe still hold some appeal heading into the winter months.

Here’s a look at what’s inside this month’s ETF Edge:
