ETF Edge: July 2010
Welcome to the July issue of ETF Edge! The beginning of the summer is traditionally the time of year when Wall Street heads to the Jersey shore, allowing investors to catch their breath before earnings season kicks off. But the last month has been anything but quiet in the ETF industry, as the competitive landscape has continued to evolve and exciting new products have been stuffed into the pipeline.
From an investing perspective, the outlook remains murky; Europe continues to dominate the headlines, but increased attention is now being paid to China as well in light of Beijing’s surprise shift in currency policy and signs that the global growth engine may be slowing down. With a critical few weeks of earnings reports directly ahead, investors will soon know if the U.S. economy has continued to plow ahead despite turmoil in the rest of the world, as many hope it has. As the second half of the year kicks off, we maintain a cautious outlook, but believe we’ve uncovered some promising corners of the market.
