ETF Edge: May 2010

Published on by on May 3, 2010 | Updated May 6, 2010

Welcome to the May issue of ETF Edge! The second quarter of 2010 is underway, and so far the good times have continued to roll. The ETF industry continues to evolve rapidly from month to month, with the competitive environment and regulatory situation seemingly in constant flux. Interest in ETFs continues to surge, and issuers are responding to the demand with a steady stream of innovative new products. April saw some of the most successful new ETF launches of the year, as well as a handful of interesting filings that seem likely to receive a warm reception.

From an investing perspective, May will be an interesting month. A generally impressive earnings season has kicked off, with several bellwethers exuding confidence in a continued recovery and clawback to pre-recession levels. Some of the risks causing anxiety among investors have faded into the background (such as runaway inflation), while others have emerged as more serious threats to the global economy than previously imagines (debt crisis in Europe). In coming months, jobs reports and Fed meetings will be increasingly important, as will careful monitoring of potentially troublesome pockets of the globe.

Here’s a look at what’s inside this month’s ETF Edge:
