This ETF offers exposure to stocks of companies from "commodity countries," a group that includes both developed and emerging markets that account for significant production of various natural resources. It should be noted that the underlying index consists of companies from all sectors of the economies; CCXE does not focus exclusively on companies engaged in the extraction and production of raw materials, but rather focuses on the broader economies of countries that are significant producers of commodities. As such, this ETF can have appeal as a tactical tool for establishing exposure to commodity-intensive markets that may be better positioned to perform well in certain environments. Alternatively, CCXE could also be used as either a core or satellite holding within the international equity segment of a longer-term, buy-and-hold portfolio for investors who believe commodity producing countries offer more attractive risk/return profiles over the long run. One other noteworthy attribute of CCXE is the weighting methodology; this fund seeks to replicate a dividend-weighted index, which may result in a tilt towards certain sectors. This strategy might be appealing to investors looking to steer clear of cap weighting or to enhance current returns from the equity side of their portfolios. CCXE's portfolio isn't as deep as some of those in the Global Equities ETFdb Category, but this fund still offers balanced yet specialized exposure for a very reasonable price (although the expense ratio is a bit above some of the most cost efficient alternatives, such as VEU or ACWI). Moreover, the equal-weighting among component countries further balances exposure across various commodities and equity markets.
