This ETF offers exposure to developed equity markets around the world with a heavy tilt towards American companies although several large European names are in the fund's top ten holdings as well. As such, DGT has the potential to be included as a cornerstone of an equity component of a long-term portfolio. DGT is linked to a cap-weighted benchmark consisting of about 55 stocks, and as such is dominated by mega cap companies (SCZ, which offers exposure to small cap developed market ex-U.S. stocks, could make for a nice complement). Most investors considering DGT be better off in VEA; that Vanguard fund includes close to ten times the number of individual securities, thereby offering considerably more depth of exposure and lowering concentration. Moreover, VEA is considerably cheaper than DGT, making it difficult to justify inclusion of this fund in a portfolio, especially for investors who already have a large compliment of American stocks.
The adjacent table gives investors an individual Realtime Rating for DGT on several different metrics, including liquidity, expenses, performance, volatility, dividend, concentration of holdings in addition to an overall rating.
