This ETF offers a way for investors to establish short exposure to crude oil. As such, this fund can be useful for those who believe a pullback in crude prices is due, and is probably appropriate only for more active traders (DNO certainly has no place in a long-term buy and hold portfolio). There are several noteworthy items on this ETP; the ETF structure exposes investors to the futures curve and as such will generally not correspond perfectly to spot prices. It should also be noted that the underlying index consists of futures contracts, and as such will generally not correspond perfectly to movements in spot prices. It's also important to understand the reset frequency (monthly) and the impact this may have on returns if held for an extended period of time. Lastly, it is also important to remember that many energy ETFs that use futures have significant roll yield issues which can greatly eat into long term returns, making holding periods very short. Nonetheless, for investors looking for short exposure to crude oil, the fund remains a quality pick.
