This ETN offers a way for investors to bet on the performance of the British pound relative to the U.S. dollar, and as such may be a useful tool in a number of different ways. While GBB might not offer the volatility short-term speculators seek, it can be an efficient way to hedge existing exposure or bet on a longer-term movement in the pound. As with any currency product, it's important to understand the ramifications of the structure on the risk/return profile. As an ETN, GBB is a debt instrument that exposes investors to credit risk and will be subject to unique tax treatment. However, the ETN structure also eliminated tracking error. Because the underlying index is simply the exchange rate (as opposed to an index comprised of forward contracts), GBB can be thought of as a "pure play" on the British pound.
The adjacent table gives investors an individual Realtime Rating for GBB on several different metrics, including liquidity, expenses, performance, volatility, dividend, concentration of holdings in addition to an overall rating.
