This ETF is linked to an index comprised of about 150 stocks selected using a proprietary methodology by Zacks, and includes U.S. equities and both developed and emerging market securities. HGI may be appealing to investors seeking broad-based global equity exposure, though the mix between different regions and development levels may be subject to change--a potential complication. Moreover, the depth of exposure is somewhat lacking, as there are only 150 component companies and a noticeable tilt towards large cap stocks. HGI has delivered solid results historically, but the scattershot approach to establishing global equity exposure lacks a cohesive theme, and as such it's difficult to see how this ETF could fit into a balanced portfolio. Those seeking one stop equity access are better off with a broad-based pick from the Global Equities ETFdb Category, such as ACWI. Those seeking to more precisely balance regional exposure would be better off taking a piecemeal approach, using ETFs such as VWO, EFA, and SCHB in whatever ratio fits their risk tolerance and investment objectives.
