This ETF offers exposure to developed markets outside the U.S., making it one of many tools available for accessing an asset class that is at the core of many long-term portfolios. IDHB is unique in that it focuses on high beta stocks from the universe of ex-U.S. developed market securities, which should result in a portfolio with greater volatility than ETFs in the same peer group. This approach may be a efficient way to ramp up risk exposure in anticipation of a climb in stock markets, much the same way investors may use low volatility ETFs to scale back overall risk. IDHB can be used as a tactical tool for beefing up exposure to risky assets over the short term, or potentially as a long term holding for investors who believe that higher volatility may be a way to generate excess returns over the long run. For investors looking for more broad based exposure, there are plenty of other options. VEA is one nice choice; that Vanguard ETF has a very deep portfolio and very low expense ratio.
