This ETF offers exposure to the industrials sector outside of the U.S., a corner of the international stock market that includes transportation firms, providers of commercial and professional services, and manufacturers of capital goods. Given the sector-specific focus, IPN likely doesn't deserve a core allocation, but may be useful as a means of implementing a tactical tilt towards the industrials sector. Like many international equity ETFs, IPN has a tilt towards large cap stocks, though mid caps and small caps do account for a decent chunk of the underlying portfolio. It's probably worth noting that Japanese stocks account for a significant portion of the underlying portfolio; investors with concerns about the health of Japan's economy may wish to avoid this fund. In addition, while the underlying index theoretically includes developed and emerging markets, IPN is effectively a developed market fund. Overall, IPN offers impressive depth and breadth of holdings; with more than 100 stocks and general balance among component securities, this fund can be a useful tool for establishing international industrials exposure. Those looking for a global industrials exposure may prefer EXI.
