This ETF offers exposure to large cap Japanese stocks, making JPP an opportunity to bet on one of the largest economies in the world that has been stuck in a low growth environment for several decades. JPP isn't the most popular ETF option for exposure to Japanese stocks by any means, but it does offer very liquid underlying holdings and a relatively balanced holdings profile. While the fund isn't nearly as diversified as EWJ in terms of total number of holdings, it does hold over 380 names and it very spread out as well; less than 20% of the fund goes to the top ten holdings. Furthermore, the fund offers a very reasonable allocation to financials and energy, something that is often lacking in large cap equity funds of developed nations. It should be noted that, thanks to its focus on liquidity, JPP consists primarily of large and mega cap stocks although small and mid caps do find their way into the fund as well. Investors who would prefer to round out exposure through small caps or prefer small caps as a means of establishing international equity exposure have multiple options (SCJ, JSC, and DFJ) available to them. JPP is a nice option for Japanese equity exposure; relatively thin spreads, among the lowest costs in the Category, and balanced exposure make for a quality ETF for both traders and buy-and-holders alike.
