This ETF tracks the MSCI USA ESG Select Index, a benchmark consisting of some of America's largest companies. However, this fund targets this sector with a twist, investing in companies that have positive environmental, social, and governance characteristics relative to their industry and sector peers and in relation to the broader market, while exhibiting risk and return characteristics similar to the MSCI USA Index. As a result, investors get many of the same large caps that are found in other funds in this Category but some notable blue chips are excluded. This leads KLD to be heavy in exposure to tech, consumer and health care companies which is generally different from the other funds in the sector that often put the biggest weightings to energy, industrials and financials. In terms of overall diversification, the fund does a pretty good job, holding on to just under 200 securities in total while not allocating more than 4% to any one individual security. KLD could be a nice building block for investors seeking a fund with more of a conscience, but for investors looking to keep costs down to an absolute minimum, other cheaper options are likely to be more appealing.
The adjacent table gives investors an individual Realtime Rating for KLD on several different metrics, including liquidity, expenses, performance, volatility, dividend, concentration of holdings in addition to an overall rating.
