This specialized ETF tracks an index of companies that are engaged in the electronics-based segments of the technology world. This includes firms involved in the following industries; computers, software, hardware, and semiconductors just to name a few. Thanks to this focus, the fund provides targeted exposure to some of the smaller names in the tech sector that are often left out-- or receive much smaller allocations-- of other, more broadly based funds such as IXN. Due to this, the fund could be a solid pick for investors seeking more granular exposure to a often forgotten corner of the industry. However, it should be noted that the fund does only 36 securities in total suggesting that diversification may not be very thorough within the product, even though no one company makes up more than 4% of the fund's total assets. So while this fund may be appropriate for those seeking to make a targeted play on this corner of the tech sector, it shouldn't be used by those trying to construct a long-term buy and hold portfolio as these investors should look to a more broad based fund instead.
