This ETF offers investors a way to access equity markets outside of the U.S., an asset class that will generally account for a big chunk of any long-term portfolio. RTR contains the same securities as the S&P ADR index, but weights each according to top line revenue as opposed to market capitalization. As such, this ETF may be attractive to investors who either believe that revenue weighting offers an optimal approach to international equity exposure, or simply to those who believe that there are some serious potential drawbacks to market cap weighting. There are a couple of items that may diminish the appeal of RTR; this fund is somewhat concentrated, with only about 170 total holdings and some heavy weightings afforded to a handful of individual stocks. Moreover, there is a significant tilt to the energy and financial sectors, with overall sector exposure that is far from balanced. RTR may be a very useful building block for those who believe that the revenue weighting methodology is capable of consistently generating alpha; otherwise, there are funds offering exposure to the same asset class with better balance and lower expenses.
