This product is designed to deliver broad-based commodity exposure, seeking to replicate a benchmark that includes more than two dozen commodity futures across a variety of commodity families. The related index includes exposure to energy, metals, livestock, and agriculture, making it one of the many options available for broad commodity exposure. Unlike some commodity ETPs, UCI is not dominated by energy holdings; industrial metals and agricultural commodities also make up a substantial portion of the underlying index. It should be noted that UCI's structure can have an impact on returns and risk profile. This product is an ETN, meaning that investors are exposed to the credit risk of the issuing financial institution. On the plus side, however, ETNs may be eligible for more favorable tax treatment and will avoid tracking error. Alternatives to UCI include both ETFs such as DBC and other ETNs such as DJP or DJCI.
The adjacent table gives investors an individual Realtime Rating for UCI on several different metrics, including liquidity, expenses, performance, volatility, dividend, concentration of holdings in addition to an overall rating.
