This ETF is one of the more unique offerings on the market, as WDTI offers exposure to a managed futures strategy that has historically been difficult for smaller investors to implement efficiently. WDTI has the flexibility to establish both long and short positions in a number of different asset classes, giving it the potential to appreciate in all types of markets and a low correlation with traditional asset classes. As such, while WDTI probably doesn't deserve a huge allocation in any long-term portfolio, but it can be a useful holding for lowering overall volatility. It should be noted that while this ETF is actively managed, it does seek to replicate the performance of an index. The active management distinction gives the fund flexibility in which instruments it utilizes to achieve its objective, including futures and forward contracts. ALT is the most comparable ETP, though investors should take note of the structural differences between these two; as a true 1940 Act ETF, WDTI may have certain advantages. Some investors may be scared away by the expense ratio of this fund, as the hefty fees create a significant hurdle, especially given the strategy of WDTI. While the expense ratio is indeed considerably higher than the ETF industry average, it isn't unreasonable considering the nature of the exposure offered.
