U.S. stocks started off the year with a solid rally as investors’ confidence was bolstered by multiple better-than-expected economic data reports; consistent improvements in the housing market coupled with a downtick in the unemployment rate were enough to reignite bullish momentum on Wall Street. Gold inched higher last week, climbing back over $1,600 an ounce, although the precious metal continues to face headwinds given the looming uncertainty stemming from the Euro zone. Weekly Outlook The coming week will be fairly busy with activity and economic data releases both at home and on the international front.
Financial markets saw a whirlwind of activity last week as Euro zone debt woes swayed investor sentiment from euphoric to fearful. Equity markets came under serious selling pressures after news of a Greek referendum reignited default fears. Confidence in the currency bloc quickly returned however as the Greeks rescinded their referendum and bullish investors were quick to pile into equity markets following the sell-off the day before. The European Central Bank interest rate cut further bolstered markets higher as investors were happy to see the ECB taking preemptive measures to ensure financial stability in the debt burdened region. Gold worked its way higher amidst the continuing uncertainty, and the precious metal closed right around $1,760 an ounce for the week.
Wall Street was able to close out the week in solid positive territory, although investor worries remain escalated over the uncertainty still plaguing the debt-stricken Euro zone. Waves of optimism and improvements in investor confidence, following a better-than-expected employment report at home, helped stocks climb higher last week. Gold prices remain range-bound although the yellow metal appears to be gaining momentum above the critical $1,600 an ounce level, possibly preparing to rebound higher in the coming days. Earnings season kicks off this week and investors will have platefuls of corporate performance reports to digest, hopefully restoring some confidence back in the U.S. economy. Weekly Outlook The coming week is fairly light with major economic releases on the international front, including inflation data from the Euro zone. At home, investors also have plenty on their plate, including an important consumer confidence report on Friday. Below, we highlight ETFs that may see [...]
Click here to read the original article on ETFdb.com.

Related Posts:

ETF Insider: Beware Of Lingering Euro Fears

Checking In On Six ETFs Touched By Chaos In Greece

Ten Biggest ETF Losers From Recent Selloff

Daily ETF Roundup: EPP Plummets, VXX Soars

Six ETFs To Watch As Greek Drama Unfolds

<IMG SRC="http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/N3220.etfdb.comOX20380/B6170340.6;sz=1x1;pc=[TPAS_ID];ord=[timestamp]?" On Friday, following talks between the U.S. and China in Beijing, the People’s Bank of China set the yuan’s reference rate at the highest level against the dollar since the bank began publishing that number about 15 years ago. Despite the move, the yuan has moved less than 1% since the June announcement of enhanced flexibility–supposedly upward flexibility–against the greenback. “China moved to let its [...]
Click here to read the original article on ETFdb.com.

Related Posts:

Another China Yuan ETF: Rydex Launches FXCH

China Yuan ETFs On The Move

Guggenheim Plans China Bond ETF

Emerging Market ETFs: Seven Factors Every Investor Should Consider

Currency ETFs: A Better Way To Play The BRIC?

<IMG SRC="http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/N3220.etfdb.comOX20380/B6170340.6;sz=1x1;pc=[TPAS_ID];ord=[timestamp]?"
When the global economy transitioned into “recovery mode” following the latest recession, the emerging markets of the world jumped into the lead and quickly left their developed counterparts in the dust. Although advanced economies have resumed expansion, growth rates in the U.S. and Western Europe lag far behind the impressive figures being put up by China, Brazil, and countless other emerging economies. Some investors have always embraced emerging markets as an opportunity to access high growth areas of the economy, but in recent years interest has surged to new highs. With significant hurdles to growth in advanced economies–including sky high unemployment and mounting debt– many investors are rethinking the traditional wisdom that has called for them to allocate huge chunks of portfolios to domestic securities.
