Emerging Global Advisors To Launch China Infrastructure ETF (CHXX)

Emerging Global Advisors, the New York-based ETF issuer that pioneered sector-specific emerging markets ETFs last year, is scheduled to launch its first China ETF on Wednesday. The INDXX China Infrastructure Index Fund (CHXX) will be based on the INDXX China Infrastructure Index, a free-float cap-weighted index comprised of 30 companies determined to be representative of China’s infrastructure sectors. Although the benchmark focuses exclusively on the infrastructure sector, the underlying companies will include a mix of sub-sectors within this space. Major allocations in the index include metals and mining, construction and engineering, real estate management and development, electrical equipment, construction materials, and diversified telecommunications. First Emerging Markets Financials ETF Launches

Emerging Global Advisors on Wednesday launched the Dow Jones Emerging Markets Financials Titans Index Fund (EFN), the first exchange-traded fund to offer targeted exposure to banks, insurance companies, and financial institutions in emerging markets. EFN brings Emerging Global Advisors’ line of products to four, with the other three including: Dow Jones Emerging Markets Metals & Mining Titans Index Fund (EMT): Invests in emerging markets companies engaged in diversified metals and mining, gold, steel, and aluminum industries. Dow Jones Emerging Markets Composite Titans Index Fund (EEG): Holds 100 emerging markets companies deemed to be leading companies in each of the 10 industrial sectors. Dow Jones Emerging Markets Energy Titans Index Fund (EEO): Invests in emerging markets companies engaged in the development and production of crude oil and natural gas and firms that provide drilling and other energy-related services. ETF Securities To Launch Precious Metals ETFs In Japan

London-based ETF Securities Ltd. continues to expand its line of commodity ETFs at a torrid pace, announcing this week that five ETFs holding precious metals will begin trading on the Tokyo Stock Exchange later this month. The new funds are: Physical Gold Physical Silver Physical Platinum Physical Palladium Physical Precious Metals Basket Rapid Growth ETF Securities is perhaps best known as the firm behind the launch of the world’s first gold ETC in 2003 and first oil ETC in 2005, but the company has been expanding quickly beyond the UK in recent months. In July, ETFS made launched its first U.S.-listed product, the ETFS Silver Trust (SIVR). SIVR Comes Flying Out Of The Gate

It’s been quite a week for the folks at ETF Securities (ETFS), one of the preeminent ETF sponsors in Europe that recently made the long jump across the pond to enter into the U.S. market. Last Friday ETFS launched its Silver Trust (SIVR), a bullion-backed trust that is expected to compete directly with iShares’ SLV, and the company rang the bell on the NYSE on Tuesday. Most new ETPs struggle to gain their footing coming out of the gate, but SIVR has had no problems establishing sufficient liquidity right from the get-go. ETFS rang the bell on the NYSE on Tuesday, and SIVR proceeded to trade nearly 250,000 shares that day. Volume was again above 200,000 on Wednesday and the fund’s average daily volume over its first five trading days topped 120,000. Emerging Markets Sector Funds: The Next BIG Thing?

Although the entire ETF industry has enjoyed a tremendous boom over the last year, perhaps no corner of the market has expanded as quickly as emerging markets funds. According to State Street’s industry snapshot, assets in international ETFs totaled about $28.6 billion at then end of June, representing an increase of 27.5% year to date. While there are a number of diversified emerging market ETFs available from a number of issuers, the product offerings are now evolving to achieve exposure to specific sectors of emerging equity markets. Most recently, Emerging Global Advisors launched the Emerging Global Shares Dow Jones Emerging Markets Titans Composite Index Fund (EEG), its third ETF to offer targeted exposure to emerging markets. EEG will track an index comprised of the 100 largest stocks in major sectors across developing markets, with no individual sector comprising more than 10% of total holdings. iShares Launches Peru ETF, Argentina Up Next?

Score one for Goliath. Three weeks after Global X announced that it would launch the first ETF investing exclusively in Peruvian equities, iShares beat its much smaller rival to the punch, launching the MSCI All Peru Capped Index Fund (EPU). EPU, which has an expense ratio of 0.63%, provides investors with an opportunity to invest in one of the world’s most promising markets. “With the fastest growing economy in Latin America and one of the lowest inflation rates in the region, Peru’s essentially untapped market offers diversification benefits and poses an attractive opportunity to investors,” said Daniel Gamba, CEO of Latin America for iShares. Emerging Markets Infrastructure ETFs Square Off

iShares added yet another ETF to its market-leading family of funds on Friday, launching the S&P Emerging Markets Infrastructure Index Fund (EMIF). EMIF will compete with PowerShares‘ Emerging Markets Infrastructure Portfolio (PXR), an ETF that began trading in October 2008 and has grown to a market capitalization of more than $46 million. PXR, along with many other emerging markets ETFs, has been very popular among investors in recent months, rising more than 35% year-to-date. Now that iShares has launched a fund that could compete with the existing PowerShares ETF for future investor dollars, here’s a side-by-side breakdown of how these two stack up: Country Coverage: China, Brazil, and Argentina will comprise more than 55% of EMIF’s holdings, while PXR is significantly more diversified.
