Bullish euphoria has remained strong on Wall Street thanks to an overwhelming majority of better-than-expected economic data releases in 2012. With Euro zone woes off the table, at least for now, investors can once again turn their attention to fundamental developments on the home front. Weekly Outlook The coming week will feature a host important domestic data, including retail sales, an FOMC meeting, as well as a CPI release to end the week. Below, we highlight ETFs that may see an increase in trading activity as relevant market data is released and evaluated by investors: SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT): The U.S. retail sector could become the center of attention on Tuesday depending on how [...]
Click here to read the original article on ETFdb.com.

Related Posts:

<a href='http://etfdb.com/2012/etf-insider-is-euro-zone-optimism-here-to-stay/' title='ETF Insider: Is Euro Zone Optimism Here To Stay?
As the number of exchange-traded funds continues to multiply, investors have the ability to achieve increasingly granular exposure to narrow segments of the global economy. This development has worked out quite nicely for investors who utilize a “core and explore” strategy that calls for the bulk of exposure to be held in broad, plain vanilla stock and bond funds with smaller weights assigned to more targeted asset sub-classes that are deemed to be potential sources of alpha. The innovation in the ETF industry has given investors tools for tapping into incredibly targeted corners of the market, ranging from producers of solid state drive technology to smartphone manufacturers to platinum miners. It’s also created an opportunity to tap into the “transportation sector,” a term that can loosely be used to cover companies whose operations focus around moving people and things between places. Nevertheless, both the Dow and the S&P 500 managed to rise modestly on the day as the indexes gained, respectively, 0.3% and 0.5% on the session. The tech-heavy Nasdaq, however, wasn’t as fortunate as the index fell by about 0.2% to close just under the 2,600 level. Meanwhile, commodity markets continued to slide on the day as gold fell by about $25/oz. and oil slid by close to 0.2% to fall just below $86/bbl. These headline products also led the rest of the sector down although some strength was seen in the rest of the energy market. The heaviest losses instead came in corners of the soft market as well as the base metals sector as [...]
Click here to read the original article on ETFdb.com.

Related Posts:

Daily ETF Roundup: IYT Soars On Data, VXX Inches Lower

<a href='http://etfdb.com/2012/etf-insider-was-the-greek-bailout-priced-in/' title='ETF Insider: Was The Greek Bailout Priced In? Equity indexes plunged further on Tuesday, although the bulls came charging to the rescue in the last hour of trading, sparking a strong, heavy-volume rally to end the trading session. Worse-than-expected U.S. consumer confidence coupled with a decline in personal income were concerning data releases that only added to the piling uncertainty weighting down on stocks.
Despite the choppy trading and continued uncertainty in Europe, American stock managed to finish the day higher pretty much across the board. The Dow rose by 0.4% while the broader indexes more than doubled the 30 stock index, as the S&P 500 rose by 0.9% and the Nasdaq gained 1.5% for the day. In commodity markets, most resources finished in the green as well, as gold added about 1.3% and oil surged to just below the $90/bbl. mark on a 1.9% gain. Soft commodities, on the other hand, did see broad weakness on the session as all of the grains slumped, led lower by 3% losses in the corn and wheat markets on hopes for higher supply levels. In currency markets, the dollar finished slightly lower against most of the major currencies, falling below the 77 yen mark but staying flat against both the euro and the pound.
