Emerging Global Advisors, the New York-based ETF issuer that pioneered sector-specific emerging markets ETFs last year, is scheduled to launch its first China ETF on Wednesday. The INDXX China Infrastructure Index Fund (CHXX) will be based on the INDXX China Infrastructure Index, a free-float cap-weighted index comprised of 30 companies determined to be representative of China’s infrastructure sectors. Although the benchmark focuses exclusively on the infrastructure sector, the underlying companies will include a mix of sub-sectors within this space. Major allocations in the index include metals and mining, construction and engineering, real estate management and development, electrical equipment, construction materials, and diversified telecommunications. China’s Infrastructure Industry The case for investment in China’s infrastructure sector is a relatively simple one, and focuses on an overriding theme expected to drive growth throughout the emerging world: urbanization.
Following a year that saw some of the worst performances in recent memory, many asset classes have bounced back in 2009. But some have performed better than others, and as the year draws to a close we take a look at some of the best-performing ETFs. The year’s top gainers include a few of the largest and most-heavily traded funds, but the majority of those that made the list are lesser known ETFs likely off the radar of many ETF investors. Each of the 900-plus ETFs currently included in the ETF Screener has been allocated to a single “best fit” ETFdb Category (see a complete list of ETFdb Categories here).
While ETFs in the same ETFdb Category generally share similar objectives and risk/return profiles, they aren’t necessarily perfect substitutes for each other. The following list shows the fund from each ETFdb Category with this highest year-to-date return as of December [...]
Click here to read the original article on ETFdb.com.

Related Posts:

Best ETF Performers Of 2010: Winners For Every ETFdb Category

Half Year In Review: Six ETF Stories From The First Six Months of ’09

Free ETF Trading: Comparing All The Options

ETFdb Category Kings: Best Performers From First Half Of 2011

May ETFdb Category Kings: Best Performing ETFs

<IMG SRC="http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/N3220.etfdb.comOX20380/B6170340.6;sz=1x1;pc=[TPAS_ID];ord=[timestamp]?" Decades after the push for developing green energy sources began, little progress has been made. The spectacular failures (remember the ethanol experiment?) have far outnumbered the mild successes. Solar power technology has improved by leaps and bounds, but it still hasn’t been proven as financially viable, and the U.S. trails badly behind China and Japan in the race to become the world’s dominant player.
iShares added yet another ETF to its market-leading family of funds on Friday, launching the S&P Emerging Markets Infrastructure Index Fund (EMIF). EMIF will compete with PowerShares‘ Emerging Markets Infrastructure Portfolio (PXR), an ETF that began trading in October 2008 and has grown to a market capitalization of more than $46 million. PXR, along with many other emerging markets ETFs, has been very popular among investors in recent months, rising more than 35% year-to-date. Now that iShares has launched a fund that could compete with the existing PowerShares ETF for future investor dollars, here’s a side-by-side breakdown of how these two stack up: Country Coverage: China, Brazil, and Argentina will comprise more than 55% of EMIF’s holdings, while PXR is significantly more diversified. China, Indonesia, and Russia receive the largest allocations in the PowerShares fund, accounting for just under 35% of total holdings.
