Global X announced today the launch of the first pure play Argentina ETF, bringing to market another option for accessing South America. The Global X FTSE Argentina 20 ETF (ARGT) will seek to replicate the FTSE Argentina 20 Index, a benchmark that includes the top 20 companies within the investable universe of Argentina-domiciled companies or companies that have substantial revenues or assets in Argentina. “ARGT provides a relatively cost effective way to access the second largest economy in South America, a glaring hole in the existing ETF offerings,” said Bruno del Ama, chief executive officer of Global X Funds. ETF First ARGT is the first ETF to offer pure play exposure to Argentinian equities, and continues a trend of expanding options for investing in South America beyond Brazil.
As equity markets have surged in recent weeks, investors have grown increasingly bullish on the manufacturing and construction sectors of the economy. With strong readings out of the Chicago PMI and solid car sales, the immediate future is beginning to look bright for steel companies as the important commodity becomes more in demand. However, a slow down in the world’s largest producer and consumer of the metal alloy, China, threatens to sink the sector and send the shares of various iron ore companies sharply lower. One of the biggest companies which focus on this segment of the steel market is the Anglo-Australian giant Rio Tinto (RTP) which looks to be especially under the microscope today as the company reports its second quarter earnings. Rio Tinto is currently one of the five largest publicly traded mining firms in the world and the second largest iron ore miner producing volume of close to 150 [...]
Click here to read the original article on ETFdb.com.

Related Posts:

Van Eck Debuts Proprietary Indexes, Barclays Drops “Capital”

Seven Surprising ETF Holdings: Why Investors Should Always Look Under The Hood

Global X Debuts Argentina ETF (ARGT)

Checking In: Top 5 Equity ETFs Of 2009

Five ETFs Heavily Dependent On China

<IMG SRC="http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/N3220.etfdb.comOX20380/B6170340.6;sz=1x1;pc=[TPAS_ID];ord=[timestamp]?"
It’s difficult to put a finger on the exact cause of the recent surge in popularity of commodity investing. More than likely, the boom is attributable to a number of different factors. Correlation between international equity markets (and even between stocks and bonds) has surged in recent years, increasing both the importance and difficulty of adding non-correlated assets to investor portfolios. Given the relatively weak correlation with other asset classes, commodities have found a home in many investors’ portfolios. Moreover, unprecedented injections of liquidity into the financial system have created anxiety over a coming uptick in inflation that could erode returns to stocks and fixed income instruments. Commodities have historically served as an effective inflation hedge, and many are once again turning to natural resources to protect assets from a surge in the CPI.
