Despite Friday’s relatively large miss in GDP, stocks were able to post a week in the black as strong earnings helped major indexes make a run higher. Unfortunately, it seems that we are still at the mercy of Europe as any news about Spanish debts will rock markets. The coming week features the tail end of earnings season, as a number of the world’s largest companies have already reported. Perhaps the most notable result came form Apple (AAPL) who crushed analyst estimates and saw their share price skyrocket as a result.
Friday’s trading session saw stock uphold their bullish momentum despite a rather substantial miss in GDP. U.S. GDP for the first quarter of the year came in at 2.2, down from the anticipated 2.5. While this news would typically hammer markets, positive earnings kept the bull run alive and overshadowed this miss. The Dow closed the day with a 23 point gain while the S&P 500 jumped by a meager 0.2%; still a strong day with all things considered. Despite some volatility early in the week, stocks were finally able to post a winning week, but with earnings winding down, the next few weeks will be especially crucial [see also ETF Filings Frenzy Roundup]. Major commodities were relatively quiet on the day, as gold gained 3 points and crude tacked on about 0.3 points. For those who monitor Ag futures, corn had a very strong day, as its prices jumped by [...]
Click here to read the original article on ETFdb.com.

Related Posts:

Daily ETF Roundup: UNG Sinks, XLY Rises

101 ETF Lessons Every Financial Advisor Should Learn

Daily ETF Roundup: UNG Pops Ahead Of Inventory Report, EWY Falls On Profit Taking

Daily ETF Roundup: UNG Jumps, VXX Falls

Daily ETF Roundup: UNG Spikes Higher, GDX Sinks With Gold

<IMG SRC="http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/N3220.etfdb.comOX20380/B6170340.6;sz=1x1;pc=[TPAS_ID];ord=[timestamp]?"
Wall Street enjoyed its third consecutive win despite a mixed bag of earnings on the day. The most notable report from today was from Exxon Mobil (XOM) who’s profit was 11% off of original targets, prompting the stock to dip during the day. Traders also cheered on better-than-expected housing data, a rare win considering the dismal outlook for that sector. All in all, the Dow was able to tack on 113 points while the S&P 500 jumped by about 0.7%. Though all signs are pointing to a positive week for equities, tomorrow morning’s GDP results will have the final word [see also 5 ETF Experts You Need To Follow On Twitter]. Moving to the commodity side of things, gold was able to make big strides today as the precious metal tacked on nearly 15 points while crude also saw a meager rise.
