Oil Fun Facts

The global oil space has seen big developments over the last three decades. Below, we spell out some of the most unique facts about this industry:

  1. What country currently produces the most oil? As of the end of 2012, Saudi Arabia had a narrow lead over the U.S., producing 4.214 billion barrels last year.
  2. What country currently consumes the most oil? According to the most recent government, year-end data, the U.S. is by far the biggest consumer, using up nearly 7 billion barrels of oil in 2011.
  3. What country currently exports the most oil? The most recent export data reveals that the U.S. takes first place, shipping 843 million barrels across the borders in 2010.
  4. What country currently imports the most oil? Despite being the largest consumer and largest exporter, the U.S. is also the biggest importer, bringing in just shy of 950 million barrels in 2010.
