The sun may finally be shining for those ETFs that, well, are powered by the sun. Renewable energy stocks and the funds that track them have been quietly winning in the new year as a variety of tailwinds have propelled them forward. From new policy points and falling costs to rising demand, providers of solar, wind and other alternative energy sources are riding high.

The best part, is many of these tailwinds have the potential to keep going far into the future.

The question for investors now, is whether or not, it’s worth chasing the recent surges in renewable energy ETFs or have they already missed the boat. In the end, it may all be about your timeline and just how long you have to wait.
