WisdomTree expanded its fund library with the launch of WisdomTree GeoAlpha Opportunities Fund (GEOA) on the NYSE today. GEOA employs a passive strategy to closely replicate the price and performance of its underlying index, the WisdomTree GeoAlpha Opportunities Index.
A Rules-Based Approach to Geopolitical Investing
According to the prospectus, the index targets companies across developed and emerging markets that stand to benefit from four major themes:
- Geopolitical Events (25-50%): Firms positioned to gain from supply chain adjustments, trade policies, defense spending, and international alliances.
- Fiscal and Monetary Policy Shifts (5-25%): Companies benefiting from changing interest rates, fiscal programs, and currency interventions.
- Technological Innovation (5-25%): Innovators, especially in IT and energy sectors, leading disruption with tech-enabled products and services.
- Shifting Consumer Preferences (5-15%): Businesses aligned with evolving global consumer behaviors.

Moreover, to qualify for inclusion companies must meet strict criteria. This includes a minimum $1 billion market cap and sufficient liquidity. Additionally, the index weights constituents by market capitalization, liquidity, and relevance to these themes, with no single stock exceeding a 5% weighting. The Index rebalances quarterly to maintain alignment with current global dynamics.
Positioning for a Complex Global Landscape
“The geopolitical landscape is evolving at an unprecedented pace,” said Sam Rines, Macro Strategist at WisdomTree in a press release.
With shifts in global policies, trade, and consumer behavior, GEOA certainly offers a way for investors to align their portfolios with these ongoing developments.
Mellon Investments Corporation’s Equity Index Strategies team under WisdomTree Asset Management manages GEOA. The management team includes Chief Investment Officer Marlene Walker-Smith and senior portfolio managers David France, Todd Frysinger, Vlasta Sheremeta, and Michael Stoll. GEOA additionally carries a net expense ratio of 0.58%.
WisdomTree currently lists roughly 81 ETFs in the U.S. with more than $85 billion in assets under management.
