Top PF bloggers have had a huge influence over many peoples' investing habits, and the five listed above have certainly led many investors into buy and hold style investing.

First, the bloggers you cite are all young. They write excellent blogs, but it's not right to sue them as references for the iaea of buy and hold investing. Some of them were in elementary school during the 1987 market crash.

Next, buy and hold is truly inefficient. Why would anyone want to own socks UNHEDGED and face those periodic bear markets. By adopting conservative option strategies, the investor may give up some gains in raging bulll markets, but outperforms in all other markets. And when the bear arrives, that out-performance is dramatic.

Options re not for everyone, but those strategies can be used for ETF portfolios.
