This ETN looks to track the Cushing MLP High Income index which seeks to track the performance of 30 energy and shipping MLPs with an emphasis on current income. The securities are chosen for inclusion according to a three-tier proprietary weighting system developed by Cushing MLP Asset Management. MLPs have seen huge inflows as of late as investors search for new ways to obtain current income in this low yield environment. Since MLPs have to pay out most of their income as dividends in order to maintain certain tax advantages, these securities have fallen into favor with many investors. Furthermore, since these assets tend to produce income no matter what the price of their underlying commodities have been doing, they are sought by many, even those that are bearish on commodity investing. Additionally, it should be noted that since this is an ETN the fund has no tracking error but it does get some credit risk from the underlying issuer-- Morgan Stanley. However, for investors seeking securities in the space that pay out yields above and beyond other MLPs this fund could be a quality choice. Its expenses are in line with other products in the category and its yield is close to 80 basis points higher than some of the more popular funds in the space.
