About: The iShares ETF family was started by Barclays Global Investors and Morgan Stanley as WEBS (World Equity Benchmark Shares) in 1993. In 2009, Barclays agreed to sell Barclays Global Investors, including iShares, to BlackRock in a mixed cash-stock deal. As of September 2009, iShares has more than 180 ETFs.
