This ETF offers a way for investors to establish short exposure to base metals, including aluminum, copper, and zinc. As such, this fund can be useful for those who believe a pullback in metal prices is due, and is probably appropriate only for more active traders (BOS certainly has no place in a long-term buy and hold portfolio). There are several noteworthy items on this ETP; the ETN structure exposes investors to the credit risk of the issuing institution, but avoids tracking error and commission fees that can potentially eat into returns. It should also be noted that the underlying index consists of futures contracts, and as such will generally not correspond perfectly to movements in spot prices. It's also important to understand the reset frequency (monthly) and the impact this may have on returns if held for an extended period of time. Investors looking for short exposure to metals may also want to look into simply selling short a fund such as DBB.
