Chairman, founder, and partner of Research Affiliates, Arnott has a storied career in finance. He was the chair of First Quadrant, LP, a legendary quantitative asset management firm that he created. At Salomon Brothers (now part of Citigroup), he was a global equity strategist. Arnott was also the founding president and CEO of TSA Capital Management and a vice president at The Boston Company.
In his current role, he is pivotal in Research Affiliates’ research, portfolio management, product innovation, and broader strategy.

Arnott graduated summa cum laude from University of California, Santa Barbara, having studied economics, applied mathematics, and computer science. Accordingly, his work bridges the gap between academic theorists and financial markets. Above all, Arnott is known for challenging conventional thinking and discovering innovative solutions to complex problems.
His prolific publishing resume includes over 150 articles. For instance, Arnott is published in Harvard Business Review, Journal of Portfolio Management, and more. He served as editor-in-chief of the Financial Analysts Journal between 2002 and 2006. Additionally, Arnott has received eight Graham and Dodd Scrolls, which the CFA Institute awards to the top Financial Analyst Journal articles. In 2013, he received the William F. Sharpe Indexing Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2008, Arnott co-authored The Fundamental Index: A Better Way to Invest.
