On the latest Road to Exchange, VettaFi Head of Research Todd Rosenbluth interviewed Michael Durso, CEO of ShoreHaven Wealth Partners.
ShoreHaven Offers History in Advisory
Durso shared ShoreHaven’s 46 year long history as an advisory business, since 1978, when his father founded the business. “[We’re] very big users of ETFs and model portfolios, so we’re always excited to take in the Exchange Conference and the content we’re going to see out there," he said.
Durso on the Perks of Exchange
Speaking about the Exchange conference, Durso shared, “It’s such a great conference. The content is always awesome.” With his own career starting in asset management, Durso spent five years at iShares. He looks at the Exchange conference as the ultimate “reunion” for financial services professionals. “A lot of my colleagues, as you can imagine, work at many of the ETF providers that now exist. It feels like a reunion every time I walk into the room.”
From Guest to Moderator
After many years as an attendee, Durso is going to be moderating a panel connecting wealth management and sports betting. To Durso, this felt like an appropriate theme in the context of the conference pivot to Las Vegas. “Obviously sports betting has gotten really popular in the United States,” Durso said. “”I think there are so many parallels when you think about risk management, money management, correlations on the bettors side — and then in addition on the sportsbook side you have a lot of risk management as well.”
Additionally, Durso think advisors will get a lot out of the session in general. As sports betting is focused primarily on understanding risks, so, too, is the work of the advisor. “When we manage money for our clients, we’re taking risks for a client. We need to understand what those risk parameters are.” Advisors will also connect to panelists from sportsbooks as business owners.
