BlackRock Inc. launched two new target maturity ETFs on the NYSE Arca today. They are the iShares iBonds Dec 2035 Term Corporate ETF (IBCA) and the iShares iBonds Oct 2025 Term TIPS ETF (IBIL).
First, let’s dive into IBCA. It tracks an index of U.S.-dollar-denominated, investment-grade corporate bonds maturing in 2035. The fund is designed to mature like a bond but can be bought and sold like a stock.
IBCA invests in the Bloomberg December 2035 Maturity Corporate Index. But it can also hold U.S. government securities, short-term paper, cash or cash equivalents, and money market funds. According to the prospectus, IBCA is set to terminate around December 15, 2035.
At launch, the fund is primarily weighted toward companies in the consumer goods and services and energy sectors.

Inflation Protection Using TIPS
Next up is IBIL. This fund aims to track the ICE 2035 Maturity US Inflation-Linked Treasury Index. It consists of inflation-protected U.S. Treasury bonds maturing in 2035.
Most of IBIL’s assets will be invested in the index’s component securities. But it may also allocate up to 10% in futures, options, and swap contracts.
IBIL is set to terminate around October 15, 2035. Like IBCA, IBIL is built to mature like a bond but trade like a stock. Both ETFs provide investors with exposure to a diversified portfolio of bonds maturing in 2035.
Building a Ladder With Target Maturity ETFs
Both IBCA and IBIL can play a key role in a ladder strategy, which involves buying bond ETFs with varying maturity dates to hedge against inflation and interest rate changes.
Also, as each bond matures, you can decide whether to reinvest the funds into a new bond, potentially taking advantage of higher yields if interest rates have increased. This keeps your income flowing while adapting to market changes.
Both funds carry a low expense ratio of 0.10% and are managed by BlackRock portfolio managers James Mauro and Karen Uyehara.
BlackRock manages over $3 trillion in assets across more than 450 ETFs in the U.S. With the addition of these two iShares bonds ETFs, BlackRock continues to expand its diverse lineup of fixed income solutions.
