4 Resolutions for Financial Advisors

Evan HarpDec 31, 2024

In the blink of an eye, 2024 is in the rearview mirror. Financial Advisors looking to make 2025 their year need to have the right resolutions. Here are a few suggestions to give your 202 focus and clarity.

Make finding time to breathe one of your resolutions

Advisors are almost always working. Down time is rare and hard to come by in this field, which rewards effort and punishes stasis. However, finding time to rest and recover will make your productive hours more productive. One smart way to find breathing time is to attach it to work related activities. Attending a happy hour? Give yourself a little extra time the next morning to recover. Going to an industry conference like Exchange? Attach a day or two on either end for some time off. Many conferences take place in spots that are ideal for vacations, and attaching the travel and hotel expenses to work is efficient. Sometimes it is easier to give yourself permission to take time off if you are also moving something forward.

Learn a new skill or gain additional expertise

The way advisors best serve their clients is through their expertise. Pushing yourself to learn new skills and unlock a broader set of knowledge and understanding means you can better show up for your clients.

Investment tools are constantly evolving, but thankfully there are both offline and online ways to learn all about the new hotness and keep up to date on market trends. Webcasts are free, and offer CE credits as well as new learnings. Attending conferences and industry events like the previously mentioned Exchange can also be a terrific way to access experts and thought leaders.

Become a Better Communicator

Understanding the market is a huge part of any finance professional’s work. But financial advisors must also manage relationships. Intellectually you might have a clear line of sight on what would benefit a specific client, but if you can’t communicate your strategy effectively and earn that client’s trust, it could create issues. Behavioral finance continues to gain attention in part because it helps advisors understand the psychology of clients. Learning from experts like Shaping Wealth could help you be a better communicator in 2025.

Stay on top of Security

Cybersecurity continues to be an evolving threat. Financial information is highly sought after, and advisors need to make sure they are up to date on best practices when it comes to protecting client data.
