Baron Capital Bolsters Active ETF Lineup With Emerging Markets Fund

Ben HernandezApr 09, 2026

Baron Capital bolstered their growing active ETF lineup today with the launch of Baron Emerging Markets Select ETF (BCEM). The actively managed fund seeks to provide capital appreciation by investing in high-quality growth companies in emerging markets. The fund looks for companies that are founder-led, entrepreneurial, and capital-efficient with durable competitive advantages, regardless of market cap size.

Despite being relatively new to the ETF marketplace, Baron Capital brings a 44-year track record of long-term, fundamental, research-driven investing. Client loyalty to the Baron Capital brand, which wanted their strategies in an ETF wrapper, would eventually lead to the launch of five of their active funds last year.

“Baron made a splash when they came to market with the first suite of ETFs in late 2025, so it is great to see them continue to build out a lineup,” said TMX VettaFi Head of Research Todd Rosenbluth. “The firm has a strong heritage of active management.”

Michael Kass, who carries nearly four decades of experience investing in international and global equities, manages BCEM. Mr. Kass has been responsible for managing Baron Emerging Markets Strategy since 2011, which had $3.9 billion in assets under management as of March 31, 2026.

“The launch of Baron Emerging Markets Select ETF builds on the momentum of our active ETF lineup introduced in December 2025,” said Michael Baron, co-president and portfolio manager at Baron Capital. “As demand for actively managed ETFs grows, we remain committed to delivering our time-tested approach in structures that meet clients’ evolving needs.”

Disciplined, Bottom-Up Approach

Investing in EM brings its own set of nuances and complexities. That said, BCEM uses the same disciplined, bottom-up approach inherent in the Baron Emerging Markets Strategy.

BCEM invests in a portfolio of established companies well-positioned to benefit from secular and structural growth. This includes opportunities driven by technological, geopolitical, and regulatory change.

The fund uses Baron Capital’s fundamental and rigorous approach to research. BCEM specifically targets businesses with exceptional management teams, durable competitive advantages, and long-term value creation. Compared to the broader Baron Emerging Markets Strategy, BCEM builds a higher-conviction portfolio with fewer positions and larger weights in these investments.

“BCEM reflects strong and growing client demand for access to our emerging markets expertise,” said Matt Camuso, head of ETF solutions at Baron Capital. “Following a strong year for emerging markets, we believe the asset class is well-positioned for continued growth supported by attractive valuations and powerful secular trends reshaping the global economy. BCEM offers investors a targeted, actively managed portfolio designed to benefit from these long-term structural tailwinds.”

Since its founding in 1982, Baron Capital has utilized one style of investing with a single objective — long-term investing in secular growth businesses with durable competitive advantages, run by great management teams. The launch of BCEM builds upon this heritage.
