Here is a look at ETFs that currently offer attractive short selling opportunities.
The ETFs included in this list are rated as sell candidates for two reasons. First, each of these funds is deemed to be in a downtrend based on the fact that its 50-day moving average is below its 200-day moving average, which are popular indicators for gauging long-term and medium-term trends, respectively.
Second, each of these ETFs is also trading above its 20-day moving average, thereby offering a near-term ‘sell on the pop’ opportunity given the longer-term downtrend at hand. Note that this prospects list also features a liquidity screen by excluding ETFs with average trading volumes below the one million shares mark. As always, investors of all experience levels are advised to use stop-loss orders and practice disciplined profit-taking techniques.

- 101 ETFs made it to the list of sell on the pop prospects this month. Overall, the U.S. equity markets gained last month, driven by strong corporate earnings (especially in tech/semiconductors), massive AI investment, and a rebound in sentiment following eased tensions in the Middle East.
- Several ethereum focused ETFs like Grayscale Ethereum Staking Mini ETF (ETH ), 21Shares Ethereum ETF (TETH ), Bitwise Ethereum ETF (ETH ), and more were sell on the pop candidates, driven by a combination of institutional demand, supply constraints, and positive sentiment regarding technical upgrades.
- ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO ), Volatility Shares 2x Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITX ), and ProShares Ultra Bitcoin ETF (BITU ), also made it to the list, driven by intense institutional accumulation, substantial inflows into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, and a supply squeeze.

However, Treasury yields have seen a modest uptick in the latter part of the month as investors weigh inflation concerns sparked by war-driven commodity price spikes and their broader economic repercussions.
- Many Microstrategy-focused ETFs, such as YieldMax MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF (MSTY ), GraniteShares 2x Long MSTR Daily ETF (MSTP ), T-REX 2X Long MSTR Daily Target ETF (MSTU ), and Defiance Daily Target 1.75X Long MSTR ETF (MSTX ) were sell on the pop contenders, driven primarily by MicroStrategy’s aggressive Bitcoin acquisitions and strong institutional demand.
