Sell on the Pop Prospects: April 8 Edition

Sneha ShahApr 08, 2026
2026-04-08

Here is a look at ETFs that currently offer attractive short selling opportunities.

The ETFs included in this list are rated as sell candidates for two reasons. First, each of these funds is deemed to be in a downtrend based on the fact that its 50-day moving average is below its 200-day moving average, which are popular indicators for gauging long-term and medium-term trends, respectively.

Second, each of these ETFs is also trading above its 20-day moving average, thereby offering a near-term ‘sell on the pop’ opportunity given the longer-term downtrend at hand. Note that this prospects list also features a liquidity screen by excluding ETFs with average trading volumes below the one million shares mark. As always, investors of all experience levels are advised to use stop-loss orders and practice disciplined profit-taking techniques.

  • 35 ETFs made it to the list of sell on the pop prospects this month. Overall, the U.S. equity markets retreated primarily due to heightened geopolitical risk from the U.S.-Iran conflict, causing oil prices to surge and sparking fears of prolonged economic instability.
  • Many Ethereum focused funds like Grayscale Ethereum Staking Mini ETF (ETH ), 21Shares Ethereum ETF (TETH A-), Bitwise Ethereum ETF (ETHW ), and more featured on the Sell on the pop list. Ethereum continues to benefit from the dual tailwinds of Wall Street tokenizing on the blockchain and agentic AI systems increasingly requiring public, neutral networks. The asset’s price rose last month, driven by high institutional demand, including significant accumulation by treasury firms, and its robust performance as a utility asset.
  • Direxion Daily AMZN Bull 1.5X Shares (AMZU A) was another sell on the pop candidate. Amazon shares climbed last month as the company maintained its momentum through massive infrastructure expansions. The gains were fueled by a €33.7 billion investment in Spanish data centers and a strategic $50 billion partnership with OpenAI, signaling a dominant push into the artificial intelligence sector via AWS. iShares U.S. Technology ETF (IYW A) also made it to the sell on the pop list as the US technology sector saw growth, driven by high investment in AI infrastructure, earnings growth expectations, and a late-month rally driven by hopes of de-escalation in Middle East tensions.
  • Many corporate bond funds like iShares iBoxx $ High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (HYG A-), Deutsche X-trackers USD High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (HYLB B+), and iShares Broad USD High Yield Corporate Bond ETF (USHY A) were sell on the pop contenders last month. US high-yield corporate bond prices climbed in early April 2026, fueled by robust job data and narrowing credit spreads. This upward momentum was driven by intense investor appetite for yield and a shift toward riskier debt, underpinned by growing confidence in corporate balance sheet stability.
