This product is a unique way to access large cap stocks, as VQT utilizes a dynamic strategy to allocate exposure across large cap U.S. equities, volatility futures, and cash. The idea is that in certain high volatility environments, it may make sense to pull money out of equities and invest it instead either in stable safe havens or in an asset class that tends to perform quite well when markets struggle. The methodology for determining how exposure is allocated is transparent and relatively straightforward; for investors who believe the strategy used by the underlying index is sound, VQT may make sense as a way to access a potentially high maintenance portfolio through a single ticker. While the expense ratio on this product may seem high, it's worth noting that investors can avoid making regular transactions. Moreover, the ETN structure may have some favorable tax consequences (in addition to eliminating any tracking error).
