This ETN offers exposure to short-term Treasuries, an asset class that generally exhibits low volatility and may be appealing as a safe haven investment thanks to the absence of both credit risk and interest rate risk. DTUL is unique within the Government Bonds ETFdb Category for several reasons. First, the underlying index consists not of government bonds, but of futures contracts. And as an ETN, this product will have no tracking error but does exposure investors to the credit risk of the issuing institution. DTUL's targeted focus makes it of little use to the majority of investors, as those seeking broad-based government bond exposure have better options available to them. The biggest drawback of DTUL is the hefty price tag, which will cancel out a significant portion of the yield generated in most environments. Investors would be better served to utilize a more cost-efficient ETF, such as the similarly-focused SHY or TUZ.
